Release of interleukin-6 (IL-6) from human vascular smooth muscle cells

Interleukin 6-Freisetzung durch humane glatte Gefäßmuskelzellen

  • Chapter
Diätetik und Arteriosklerose

Abstract

Immunological processes mediated by cytokines are assumed to play an important role in atherogenesis. Besides monocytes, endothelial cells and T-cells, also vascular smooth muscle cells (SMC) are able to synthezise and release various cytokines and growth factors. IL-6, an important T-cell differentiation factor, is quantitatively one of the main secretory products of SMC and can be secreted in large amounts in response to IL-1 and other growth factors.
