Zusammenfassung
Am Anfang war der Fallbericht. Keine andere Methode steht in so engem Zusammenhang mit der Grundlegung der zeitgenössischen westlichen Psychotherapie wie die klinische Fallschilderung. „Anna O.“, „der Wolfsmann“, „Herbert Bryan“, „Gloria“ usw. sind Namen, die — gleichsam als bildungsbürgerliches Allgemeingut — weit über die psychotherapeutische Fachwelt hinaus bekannt geworden sind. Oft waren Einzelfallberichte „gleich jenem berühmten Stein, der eine Lawine ins Rollen bringt, Anstöße für wichtige Entwicklungen in Forschung und Theorie“ (Dukes, 1977, S. 58). Aber noch viel fundamentaler: Im Zusammenleben der Menschen ist Erzählen das wichtigste Mittel zur Bewältigung von Erleben wie auch zum Transfer von privater in gesellschaftliche Erfahrung. Deshalb ist auch heutzutage die Fallgeschichte das Hauptvehikel der Verständigung der Kliniker untereinander, wie auch Vehikel der öffentlichen Selbstdarstellung der Hundertschaften verschiedener psychotherapeutischer Verfahren.
