Wenn es so etwas wie ein populäres Kleist-Image gibt, dann ist der Suizid am Kleinen Wannsee am 21. November 1811 auf jeden Fall ein fester Teil davon. Bis heute gibt es eine gewisse Tendenz, Kleists Leben und sein Werk vom berühmten Ende her zu lesen. So merkt auch Ingo Breuer im ›Kleist-Handbuch‹ an.
