Zusammenfassung
Rainer Hofmann hat auf dem Gebiet des Völkerstrafrechts zwar keinen Schwerpunkt seines reichen schriftstellerischen Wirkens gesetzt. Doch er bringt dem Anliegen, kardinalen völkerrechtlichen Verhaltensnormen strafrechtlichen Schutz angedeihen zu lassen, seit vielen Jahren ein großes Interesse entgegen, das sich nicht zuletzt auf die Gründung des Internationalen Strafgerichtshofs (IStGH) und dessen seitheriges Wirken erstreckt. Daher hege ich die Hoffnung, dem hochverehrten Jubilar mit den nachfolgenden Zeilen, die einen zum 20. Jahrestag des Inkrafttretens des IStGH in der Tagespresse publizierten Essay näher aus- und weiterführen, eine Freude bereiten zu können. Diese Hoffnung verbindet sich mit großer Dankbarkeit für die stets vertrauensvolle Zusammenarbeit im Rahmen der International Law Association, in der Rainer Hofmann der deutschen Sektion seit nun langen Jahren eine hochgeachtete Stimme verleiht.
