Treatment Options for Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tears: Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty

  • Chapter

Shoulder Arthroscopy

Abstract

Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) was a major step to the irreparable cuff tear patients since its introduction in 1985. Since then, biomechanical improvements and newer designs came to the market, and RSA became the most frequently used option for shoulder replacement with proven outcome for patients with rotator cuff deficiency. The present chapter gives an overview about pathoanatomy, indication, decision-making and latest know-how in surgical procedure and prosthetic advances and points out critical steps and latest options to get the best possible result with RSA.
