Zusammenfassung
In China wird die Vision von sogenannten Smart Cities bereits in Hunderten Smart-City-Projekten umgesetzt. Das weit verbreitete Konzept wird mittlerweile auch im Rahmen der digitalen Seidenstraße exportiert. Dieses Kapitel bietet einen Überblick zu Smart Cities in China. Zunächst erfolgt ein Rückblick auf die Entstehung und den Aufstieg des Smart Urbanism in China einschließlich seiner Wurzeln in Stadtentwicklungsparadigmen seit den späten 1970er-Jahren. Dies beinhaltet unter anderem die Nutzung von Daten und digitalen Technologien für urbane Governance im Kontext rasanter Urbanisierung. Anschließend wird die aktuelle chinesische Smart-City-Landschaft beschrieben und anhand der beiden Beispiele Hangzhou und Tianjin die dort eingeführte intelligente Stadtentwicklung skizziert.
