Zusammenfassung
Der vorliegende Beitrag behandelt nach einer Einführung in die Besonderheiten des chinesischen Bildungssystems diejenigen Aspekte, die gegenwärtig von Politik, Wissenschaft und Bevölkerung als besonders dringlich wahrgenommen werden: nämlich die Kluft zwischen Stadt und Land und die Situation von ethnischen Minderheiten, private Bildungsangebote sowie Hochschulen und Hochschulpolitik. Die Schlussbemerkungen beschäftigen sich mit der Frage, wie die derzeit erneut zu beobachtende Ideologisierung von Bildung eingeordnet werden kann.

Die tatsächliche Umsetzung des Curriculums lässt sich beispielsweise an den Stundenplänen ablesen, die jeweils vor den Klassenzimmern in den Schulen hängen. Hieraus ließ sich aus den jährlichen Feldforschungsreisen der Autorin zwischen 2012 und 2019 rekonstruieren, dass der Unterricht von prüfungsrelevanten Fächern oft auf Kosten der kleineren Fächer sowie lokal angepasster Inhalte ausgeweitet wurde.

Die statistischen Daten zur Lesefähigkeit beziehen sich auf die Bevölkerung ab 15 Jahre, diejenigen zu den Bildungsabschlüssen auf die Bevölkerung ab 6 Jahre. Unter Lesefähigkeit wird die funktionale Beherrschung der chinesischen Schriftsprache verstanden.

Erst nach Inkrafttreten des Gesetzes wurden private Schulen auch kontinuierlich statistisch erfasst.

In der Feldforschung der Autorin in den Jahren 2017 bis 2019 kam diese zweigeteilte öffentliche Meinung zu Xis Bildungspolitik immer wieder zum Vorschein: Während in den Städten die Befürchtung im Vordergrund stand, dass die Politik zu einer neuen Rückständigkeit führen würde, war sie auf dem Land durchaus beliebt und mit der Hoffnung verbunden, dass verschiedene, als ungerecht empfundene Privilegien nun beseitigt würden.
