Dieses Kapitel betrachtet Raum in China zuerst auf abstrakter Ebene in Bezug auf die chinesische Nation, des Weiteren in der Logik der internen Wahrnehmung von Stadt und Land mit den damit verbundenen Vorstellungen von Fortschritt und Rückständigkeit, sowie drittens mit Fokus auf die konkreteren Erfahrungen der sich verändernden städtischen und ländlichen Siedlungsräume.
