Abstract
Humans cannot feed directly on the energy of solar radiation, nor can animals. The whole fauna first needs mass, mass of nutrients containing carbon atoms and mass of air containing oxygen atoms. Through combustion-like chemical processes, the potential energy of the food components is converted into heat and/or work in the body and outwards. The ingested mass thus ignites energy (heat and work) in the body.
