Zusammenfassung
Eine fundamentale Aufgabe des ZNS ist es, „sensorischen Input in motorischen Output zu übersetzen“ und somit „Erfahrung mit angemessenem Verhalten zu verbinden (Wolpaw 2002)“. Ein Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) ist nun ein System, welches einen Teil der Gesamtaktivität des Gehirns registriert und wiederum einen Teil der registrierten Aktivität in ein künstliches Signal übersetzt, welches „den natürlichen, motorischen Ausgang des Gehirns ersetzt, wiederherstellt, unterstützt, verstärkt oder verbessert. Ein BCI modifiziert somit die Interaktion des Gehirns mit dem Körper oder mit der Außenwelt (Wolpaw et al. 2020)“. Das vorliegende Kapitel gibt einen Überblick die aktuellen Technologien und Anwendungsgebiete von BCIs mit einem Schwerpunkt der Bedeutung für (zukünftige) Kommunikationshilfen.
