Zusammenfassung
Mit einer zunehmenden Entwicklung der Technik hat sich auch die Medizin verändert. Telekommunikationsmöglichkeiten eröffnen neue Wege in der Gesundheitsversorgung. Der Begriff eHealth fasst alle Anwendungen zusammen, die eine elektronisch gestützte Gesundheitsversorgung leistet, darunter fällt auch die Telerehabilitation. Verglichen mit anderen Bereichen der eHealth ist die Telerehabilitation ein „junges Betätigungsfeld“. Erst seit 2007 beginnt die Zahl der Patienten, die durch Telerehabilitation behandelt werden kontinuierlich zu steigen. Spannend und besonders auf dem Gebiet der Telerehabilitation im Vergleich zu anderen Teilbereichen der Telemedizin ist, dass es Einsatzbereiche gibt, für die sich die Telerehabilitation gut eignet, sogar besser als die konventionelle Rehabilitation. So können durch Anwendung von Virtueller Realität zum Beispiel bessere Ergebnisse bei der Therapie von Schlaganfallpatienten erzielt werden, als mit herkömmlicher Rehabilitation. Durch den Einsatz von telerehabilitativen Maßnahmen hofft man zwar insbesondere im Bereich der chronischen Erkrankungen, Patienten besser erreichen und bedienen zu können, jedoch ist die Telerehabilitation im Moment noch überwiegend eine Ergänzung zur konventionellen Rehabilitation.
