Zusammenfassung
Zu dieser Mineralklasse gehört die größte Anzahl der Erzminerale. Viele von ihnen sind opak, d. h. sie sind auch in Dünnschliffen von 20–30 µm Dicke undurchsichtig; sie besitzen Metallglanz mit unterschiedlichem Farbton. Nichtopake sulfidische Erzminerale sind bei geringer Korngröße durchscheinend oder zumindest kantendurchscheinend, besitzen eine sehr hohe Lichtbrechung und zeigen z. T. Diamantglanz. Alle zeigen bei der Mineralbestimmung nach äußeren Kennzeichen eine diagnostische Strichfarbe.
