Abstract

We like to see ourselves as autonomous beings—that is what we are. No one tells us what music we like or who we fall in love with. However, we are also “social beings”—firmly integrated into the structures that shape and orient us throughout our lives, offer us a coordinate system of the world. If choices are free, then we can also fail. To choose is to make mistakes. It becomes clear why forgiveness has a direct effect of freedom.
