Zusammenfassung

Die Behandlung und Begleitung von Kindern mit komplexen neurologischen Erkrankungen ist eine besondere Herausforderung in der pädiatrischen Palliativmedizin. Neuropädiatrische Erkrankungen werden im ersten Lebensjahr häufig durch Krampfanfälle oder motorische Störungen auffällig. Im Verlauf kann es zu Störungen der Wahrnehmung, der Sprache und zu einer geistigen Beeinträchtigung kommen, die durch gezielte Untersuchung erfasst werden müssen. Neben den neurologischen Symptomen sind häufig Unruhezuständen und Schlafstörungen für die Patient*innen und ihre Eltern sehr belastend. Eigene Unterkapitel gibt es für „Zerebrale Krampfanfälle“ und „Schlafstörungen bei Kindern mit und ohne kognitive Einschränkungen“. Viele Tabellen zur medikamentösen Therapie, Checklisten und praxiserprobte Tipps runden das Kapitel ab.
