Zusammenfassung
Sozialpsychologie untersucht menschliches Verhalten im sozialen Kontext, also Einflüsse, die Leute aufeinander ausüben. Sie untersucht, wie individuelle Gefühle, Wahrnehmungen, Motive und Denkprozesse einzelner Menschen im komplexen Gebilde des sozialen Kontexts geprägt werden. Die Vielzahl der Einflüsse macht es schwierig, sich im sozialen Kontext zu orientieren. Dieses Band zeigt, welche Informationen ein Individuum für die Orientierung braucht, unter anderem auch zur Selbsterkenntnis. Das wird im vorliegenden Kapitel diskutiert. Das Interesse gilt dem Selbst, den Konzepten, die das Selbst erklären und verschiedenen Wegen zur Selbsterkenntnis. Die Frage, wie es den Menschen gelingt, ihr höchst individuelles Selbst in der komplexen Umwelt zu platzieren, wird ebenfalls erörtert. Nachfolgende Kapitel des Lehrbuchs analysieren die Informationsgewinnung eines Einzelnen über seine Mitmenschen.
