Zusammenfassung
Damit sich im Hochgebirge Gletscher bilden können, müssen topographische und klimatische Voraussetzungen erfüllt sein. Die verschiedenen Arten von Schneegrenzen spielen hier eine entscheidende Rolle. Aus Schnee entsteht über verschiedene Umwandlungsprozesse Gletschereis, ein Material mit besonderen physikalischen Eigenschaften. Für die Bewegung der Gletscher und die Formung des Untergrunds ist die Temperatur des Eises von zentraler Bedeutung.
