Zusammenfassung
Klaudios Ptolemaios stammte vermutlich aus Ptolemaïs Hermeiou (Ägypten), wie eine byzantinische Quelle berichtet. Das Suda-Lexikon nennt ihn Κλαύδιος Πτολεμαῖος. Er wirkte in Alexandria als Astronom und Geograph.
Wohl weiß ich, ein Sterblicher zu sein, Geschöpf eines Tages,
aber betrachtet mein Sinn die Sterne,
den kreisenden Lauf ihrer verschlungenen Bahn,
dann berühren meine Füße nicht mehr die Erde,
an der Seite Zeus labt mich Ambrosia, die göttliche Speis’. (Klaudios Ptolemaios, Anthologia graeca IX, 577)
