Zusammenfassung

Die korrekte Diagnosestellung ist die Grundvoraussetzung für eine adäquate Behandlung des Patienten und somit für die Aufrechterhaltung eines höchstmöglichen Funktionsvermögens im beruflichen und sozialen Leben. Je eher die Diagnose feststeht, desto schneller kann die Information und Beratung des Patienten und, wenn gewünscht, seiner Bezugspersonen erfolgen sowie eine adäquate Behandlung beginnen. Die Diagnostik Bipolarer Störungen ist nicht immer einfach, u. a. durch die im Erkrankungsverlauf häufig als erste Episode auftretende Depression und die oftmals fehlende Beeinträchtigung des Patienten durch hypomanische Symptome.
