Abstract

Fight and direct physical contact in mankind have been going along together for millennia. Competitions and awards have helped in the development of contact sports and martial arts.

Among them wrestling is one of the ancient traditional sports with evolutionary roots. Description was first found in the Sumer civilization from more than 5000 years ago. It is one of the oldest Olympic sports in Hellenic history, included in the antique Olympic program in 708 B.C. and it was also among the first sports of the Modern Olympic Games. Though it is a contact sport which requires special skills, the well-prepared athletes are less disposed to injuries.
