Injury and Health Risk Management in Sports

Abstract

As indicated in the previous chapters, hip, groin, and thigh pathology in athletes represent a very complex group of pathologies that often are caused by a multitude of factors. These can involve trauma, muscle imbalance, or genetic pathologies. The high variety of pathologic mechanisms also dictates a plethora of treatments. Being able to indicate the proper treatment for specific types of athletes and career points is very important. It ensures maintenance of sports activity and career profitability for most professional athletes. In order to do that the diagnosis must be precise. The surgical treatment is either indicated as a failure of conservative treatment or “per primam” following lesions of the coxo-femoral joint and the periarticular space.
