Abstract
High-energy trauma with fractures and the risk of compartment syndrome are normally caused by speed disciplines, as well as climbing, paragliding, and other sports which may result in high impact energy. A combination of ligamentous injuries and bony damage can be observed after severe sprains. The diagnosis of those subtle injuries can be difficult. If in doubt the early use of MRI is recommended. Common sports-related injuries in the foot include Lisfranc ligament ruptures, metatarsal fractures, the base of the fifth metatarsal fractures, stress fractures of the navicular, and plantar plate injuries of the first metatarsophalangeal joint.
