Zusammenfassung
Obwohl moderne Geschlechterrollen berücksichtigen, dass die Mitglieder beider Geschlechter um Fortpflanzungspartner konkurrieren und diese auswählen, gibt es gute theoretische Gründe und zahlreiche empirische Belege für massive Geschlechtsunterschiede in diesen Bereichen. Daher fokussiert diese Übersicht über Mechanismen und Konsequenzen der intrasexuellen Selektion auf männliche Fortpflanzungsstrategien. Dabei werden Merkmale, welche die Wahrscheinlichkeit, zu einer Paarungsgelegenheit zu kommen, auch nur minimal erhöhen, von intrasexueller Selektion positiv bewertet. Sexuell selektierte Anpassungen finden sich dabei in ganz unterschiedlichen Merkmalen, wobei das Verhalten aber eine herausragende Rolle spielt. Die Präsentation dieser Anpassungen folgt dabei dem logischen zeitlichen Ablauf und unterscheidet zwischen prä- und postkopulatorischer Konkurrenz. Das grundlegende Konzept der Strategie, das auf beide Geschlechter zutrifft, wird dieser Diskussion vorangestellt.
