Zusammenfassung

Das vorliegende Kapitel befasst sich mit der Frage, wie interindividuelle Unterschiede in der Emotionsregulation zustande kommen, welche Rolle Gene und Umwelt hierbei spielen, wie epigenetische Modifikationen mit Emotionsregulation und Psychopathologie zusammenhängen, inwiefern der Grundstein der Emotionsregulationsfähigkeit möglicherweise bereits im Mutterleib gelegt wird und welches die Mechanismen sind, die diesen Zusammenhängen zugrunde liegen. Zuletzt soll diskutiert werden, ob Umwelteinflüsse auf epigenetischem Wege unser Verhalten – und damit unsere Emotionsregulation – dauerhaft beeinflussen können und ob es möglich ist, diese Veränderungen potenziell – z. B. über Psychotherapie oder spezifische Emotionsregulationstrainings – wieder rückgängig zu machen.
