Zusammenfassung
Die Informationen über den Aufbau eines Organismus, seiner Gewebe und Organe sind im Genom jeder Zelle niedergelegt und dienen der Aufrechterhaltung lebensnotwendiger Vorgänge. Damit diese Information an Tochterzellen weitergegeben werden kann, wird das gesamte Genom in einem als Replikation bezeichneten Prozess kopiert. Die Replikation des humanen Genoms beginnt an etwa 30.000–50.000 Stellen gleichzeitig und wird durch einen Multienzymkomplex, das Replisom, katalysiert. Entsprechende Kontrollmechanismen sorgen dafür, dass die Fehlerrate bei der DNA-Replikation niedrig gehalten wird.
