Abstract
Print awareness is an important part of children’s literacy skills and will ensure a smooth transition to conventional literacy learning when they go to primary school. In this study, 85 2–4-year-old Chinese children and their parents were the subjects. Children’s visual cognitive processing ability and print awareness were measured. The parents’ questionnaire surveyed the home literacy environment. The results of multiple regression analysis showed that the visual cognitive processing ability had a significant effect on the level of understanding of print function, and attention to print; the factor of mouths had a significant effect on the understanding of print form; the parents instructional strategies for promoting children’s literacy have a significant influence on print awareness and the level of attention to print; the mother’s educational level has a significant impact on the print awareness.
