Abstract

Motor development is not only an important sign of the maturation of infants and toddlers’ neuromuscular system, but also an essential condition for them to gain self-reliance, explore their surroundings, adapt to social life, build confidence, and realize their own development, laying an important foundation for their development of other aspects. In this study, the testing method and observation method were employed to measure and observe the fine motor and gross motor of 130 2- and 3-year-old children in Beijing. The level of their motor development was assessed using “the Evaluation Scale on Motor development of 2- and 3-year-old children” from the following six dimensions: functional hand skills, object manipulation, object matching, body posture, movement, and object manipulation. According to the results, the flexibility, coordination, and hand–eye coordination of 2- and 3-year-old children in fine motor domain and the coordination, balance, and stability in the gross domain develop well. The 2- and 3-year-old children’s motor development is jointly affected by themselves, their family environment, and kindergarten environment.
