Zusammenfassung
Metamorphose, im geologischen Sinne, ist die mineralogische, strukturelle, chemische Umwandlung oder Änderung der Isotopie, die eintritt, wenn Gesteine innerhalb der Erdkruste erhöhten Temperaturen oder Drücken ausgesetzt werden. Das Ausgangsgestein (unabhängig ob magmatischen oder sedimentären Ursprungs) wird als Protolith bezeichnet. Metamorphose findet in verschiedenen Maßstäben statt und wird allgemein in Regional- und Lokalmetamorphose unterschieden.
