Patienten sollten aufgeklärt werden, dass es keine grundsätzliche „Verbote“, sondern vielmehr Ernährungstipps gibt. Die Letzteren sollen helfen, mit solch unliebsamen Erscheinungen wie Gas- und Geruchsbildung, Durchfällen und Obstipationen klarzukommen. Die Patienten sollten auch über die (geringe) Gefahr der Stomablockade durch Nahrungsmittel informiert werden.
