Zusammenfassung

Obwohl jedes Labor, das mit Zellkulturen experimentiert, ganz sicher schon die eine oder andere unangenehme Erfahrung mit Kontaminationen gemacht hat, wird dieses Problem immer noch unterschätzt. Das hängt mit der Unwissenheit über Ursachen, Bedeutung und Konsequenzen der jeweiligen Kontamination zusammen.Thema dieses Kapitels sind daher alle Arten von mikrobiologischen Kontaminationen die durch Einschleppen diverser Mikroorganismen in die Zellkultur gelangen können. Darunter fallen nicht nur grampositive wie gramnegative Bakterien aller Art, sondern auch bakterielle L-Formen und die gefürchteten Mycoplasmen sowie Pilze einschließlich Hefen und nicht zuletzt auch zahlreiche Viren. Das ist aber noch nicht alles, denn auch Kreuzkontaminationen und falsch identifizierte Zelllinien machen dem Zellkultur-Experimentator das Leben schwer.

O Grausen! Grausen! Grausen! Zung’ und Herz, Fasst es nicht, nennt es nicht!
