Zusammenfassung
Im Konsens verlangen die Mitgliedstaaten der Vereinten Nationen (UN) mit der Agenda 2030, dass die vereinbarten Nachhaltigkeitsziele (SDGs) in der jetzigen Generation umgesetzt werden, um so die Handlungsfähigkeit künftiger Generationen zu erhalten. In Deutschland stellen die Gebietskörperschaften (Bund, Länder und Kommunen) als wichtige Akteure der Zivilgesellschaft Umsetzungspläne auf. An erster Stelle jedoch bedarf es eines konkreten und engagierten Umsetzungsprozesses unter breiter Beteiligung aller. Hochschulen spielen hierfür eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Bildung von zukünftigen Entscheidungstragenden und damit wesentlichen Multiplikatoren. Neben dem wissenschaftlichen und theoretischen Erkenntnisgewinn haben Hochschulen nichtsdestoweniger die unmittelbare Möglichkeit, den gesellschaftlichen Transformationsprozess praktisch voranzubringen und auf diesem Wege die bestehende Implementierungslücke der Agenda 2030 dauerhaft zu schmälern. Hochschulen sind Organisationen mit hoher Komplexität und innerer Autonomie, wodurch Veränderungsprozesse und deren Gestaltung besonderen Anforderungen und Ansprüchen genügen müssen. Diese Studie stellt sich der Frage, wie Nachhaltigkeit in solch komplexen Organisationen exemplarisch an Hochschulen eingeführt und umgesetzt werden kann und inwieweit das Green Office Modell ein geeignetes Instrument für die Umsetzung der SDGs ist. Zur Einführung untersucht eine Literaturstudie die Bedeutung von Nachhaltigkeit an Hochschulen und wie die SDGs auf deren typische Handlungsfelder anwendbar sind. Die maßgebende Auswertung von drei Fallstudien an deutschen Hochschulen (Hildesheim, Kaiserslautern und Magdeburg) zeigt im Ergebnis Erfolgsfaktoren und Lösungswege für die Integration und Umsetzung der SDGs durch institutionalisierte Schnittstellen wie Green Offices auf.
