Zusammenfassung

Trotz der von allen Seiten beteuerten Haltung, freiheitsbeschränkende Maßnahmen nur als Ultima Ratio einzusetzen, variiert die Häufigkeit von freiheitsbeschränkenden Maßnahmen zwischen verschiedenen Ländern und Settings enorm, ohne dass dies durch Krankheits- und Patientenmerkmale ausreichend erklärt würde. In den letzten dreißig Jahren wurden daher von pflegerischer und ärztlicher Seite, aber auch von Seiten des Managements und der Qualitätssicherung in den Kliniken, Anstrengungen unternommen, freiheitsbeschränkende Maßnahmen zu reduzieren. Dabei sind neben Einzelinterventionen auch komplexe Behandlungsprogramme entstanden, die teilweise wissenschaftlich evaluiert sind und wirksam freiheitsbeschränkende Maßnahmen reduzieren können.
