Zusammenfassung

Die Beobachtung, dass extreme Ereignisse extreme Reaktionen verursachen, ist schon alt. Doch erst 1980 wurde die Diagnose der posttraumatischen Belastungsstörung (PTBS) offiziell als Krankheitsbild definiert und anerkannt. Seit dieser Erstbeschreibung wandelte sich die Beschreibung des Störungsbildes, zuletzt bei der Abfassung der aktuell gültigen internationalen Klassifikationssysteme DSM-5 der American Psychiatric Association (APA) bzw. ICD-11 der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO). Trotz markanter Unterschiede in der Operationalisierung in den beiden Systemen sind zahlreiche Merkmale ähnlich definiert. Die Kriterien werden in diesem Kapitel beschrieben.
