Social Benefits and Employment Protection in Case of Long-Term Sickness in Norway

Abstract

The participation of older persons in working life has increased substantially in Norway in the past decade. The contribution analyzes the various measures of social protection in case of (long-term) sickness and disability, in particular among senior workers. It deals on the one hand, with income protection, including sickness benefit, the possibility of partial sick leave, the work assessment allowance, and the new disability benefits introduced in 2015, on the other hand with instruments aimed at preventing termination of employment in case of sickness,including the obligation of employers to adjust the working environment.
