Zusammenfassung

In diesem Kapitel skizzieren wir zunächst das Jugendalter kurz aus klinisch-entwicklungspsychopathologischer Perspektive, um dann zu demonstrieren, dass diese Entwicklungsphase sowohl als Risiko als auch als Chance betrachtet werden kann. Im Anschluss werden gängige Klassifikationssysteme und ihre spezifische Bedeutsamkeit für das Jugendalter illustriert sowie epidemiologische Befunde zu Prävalenzen psychischer Störungen im Jugendalter dargestellt. Es wird herausgearbeitet, dass es unterschiedliche Verlaufstypen gibt (Störungen, die im Kindesalter beginnen und im Jugendalter noch fortdauern oder sich dort erheblich verstärken; Störungen, die erstmalig im Jugendalter auftreten können, oder solche, die nach erstmaligem Auftreten im Jugendalter dann abklingen). Dann wird jeweils ein ausgewähltes Phänomen dargestellt: im Jugendalter deutlich häufiger werdend (Depressionen), in der Regel im Jugendalter erstmalig auftretend (Suizidalität) oder aber in der Kindheit begonnen und im Jugendalter dann persistierend (Geschlechtsidentitätsstörungen). Das Kapitel schließt ab mit der Diskussion der Relevanz eines Altersbezugs bei psychotherapeutischen und psychiatrischen Interventionen, die sich aus den verschiedenen Verlaufstypen ergibt.
