Zusammenfassung
Der Beruf steht nicht nur als Hauptursache für Frust und Stress, sondern als zentralste Quelle für Erfolgserlebnisse, Struktur und Kontrolle der eigenen Leistungsfähigkeit. In der westlichen Industriegesellschaft stellt die Arbeit ein Grundbedürfnis dar. Sowohl aus der Erwerbslosenforschung als auch bei der Befragung von Krebspatienten zeigen sich Unzufriedenheit und psychische Probleme durch das Fehlen einer sinnstiftenden Tätigkeit. Mittlerweile belegen Studien an ehemaligen Krebspatienten den positiven Einfluss einer entgeltlichen Berufstätigkeit für die Lebensqualität. Erst durch eine idealerweise entgeltliche Tätigkeit wird das Freizeitglück bewusst als knapp und Quelle der Zufriedenheit spürbar und erlebbar. Zudem signalisiert eine Rückkehr in den Beruf einen Abschluss mit der Erkrankung für das Umfeld und die Betroffenen selbst.
