Abstract

The UHVDC transmission system mainly consists of the DC lines and the converter stations at both terminals, and the equipment in the station include equipment in AC field, equipment in the valve hall and equipment in DC field. This chapter analyzes. During the operation of UHVDC transmission system, measures shall be taken to avoid the abnormal operation of the system as far as possible, eliminate or reduce the possibility of fault occurrence, and avoid any threats to the safety of system or equipment. This chapter presents an overview of UHVDC protection, and then introduces the principles and configurations for UHVDC protection. Finally, difference between UHVDC protection and conventional DC protection is discussed.
