Zusammenfassung

Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen sind eine häufige Ursache für die Abnahme der körperlichen Leistungsfähigkeit und in den westlichen Industrienationen für etwa die Hälfte aller Todesfälle verantwortlich. Da neben der medizinischen Therapie auch die Bewegungstherapie eine wichtige Säule in der Behandlung von Herz-Patienten darstellt, sind für Sportwissenschaftler und Sporttherapeuten Basiskenntnisse u. a. über Erkrankungen der Koronaren Herzkrankheit, des Herzmuskels, der Herzklappen, des Herzrhythmus oder die Herzinsuffizienz notwendig, um im praktischen Berufsalltag das notwendige Rüstzeug für die Beurteilung von Leistungsfähigkeit, Belastbarkeit und Trainierbarkeit solcher Patienten zu besitzen.
