Die Belastung, der unsere Blutgefäße mit jedem Herzschlag ausgesetzt sind, wird durch den im Gefäßsystem vorherrschenden Blutdruck bestimmt. Dieser unterliegt ständigen Schwankungen, die durch den Herzzyklus-bedingten Wechsel von Kontraktion (Systole) und Relaxation (Diastole) verursacht werden.
