Abstract

Consider two balls moving on a line. The system they form is deformable because the distance of the two balls changes. Based on this idea and the assumption that collisions between the balls are instantaneous, a predictive theory of their motion is derived. The smooth motion may introduce at a distance interaction, as those resulting from a string connecting the two balls. The description of the thermal phenomena is the important subject of this Chapter. The temperatures as well as the velocities, may be discontinuous in collisions. The predictive theory gives the temperatures after collision: there is an increase of temperature due to the dissipative aspect of collisions and a relative equalization due to diffusion effects.
