Zusammenfassung

Das Nagelorgan ist eine komplexe Struktur, welche die Finger- und Zehenspitzen stabilisiert, schützt und gemeinsam mit diesen wichtige Funktionen bei der Feinmanipulation übernimmt. Nicht zuletzt kommt den Nägeln auch hohe kosmetische Bedeutung zu. Erkrankungen der Nägel können zu Schmerzen, Funktionseinschränkungen und deutlicher Beeinträchtigung der Lebensqualität führen. Voraussetzung für das Verständnis und die zielführende Diagnostik sind die Nagelanatomie und Nagelphysiologie, wobei eine Unterteilung in strukturelle Veränderungen der Nagelplatte und Änderungen der Nagelfarbe getroffen wird. Je nach Erscheinungsbild kann das Spektrum der Differenzialdiagnosen im Einzelfall sehr breit sein. Von besonderer Bedeutung sind Tumoren der Nagelregion, insbesondere das oft verzögert diagnostizierte akral-lentiginöses Melanom. Nicht selten können Nagelveränderungen den entscheidenden diagnostischen Hinweis auf systemische Erkrankungen oder genetische Syndrome geben.
