Abstract

Pulse width modulation (PWM) is one of the key control techniques of traction converter. To adapt the requirement of high-power and low-frequency feature of traction system, multi-mode PWM strategy is often used. In this paper, a multi-mode PWM strategy based on harmonic optimization is proposed, which consists of asynchronous third-harmonic injection sinusoidal PWM (THI-SPWM), 15-pulse synchronous THI-SPWM, selective harmonic elimination modulation (SHEPWM), and single-pulse modulation. As a result, switching frequency and power losses are reduced, and the harmonic feature of motor current in medium and high-frequency region is improved. Simulation and experiment results confirm the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed strategy.
