Zusammenfassung

Pulmonale Symptome, besonders Atemnot mit Erstickungsangst, sind Symptome, deren Bedeutung oft erst erkannt werden, wenn das Problem evident ist. Mit guter palliativer Vorausplanung sind sie aber in der Regel sogar relativ leicht beherrschbar. Gerade hier geht es nicht um „lieber therapieren mit der Nebenwirkung Lebensverkürzung, als mit kaum erträglichem Leid länger leben“. Eine angemessene Symptomkontrolle der Atemnot verbessert die Lebensqualität hochevident und führt häufig dadurch zu einer besseren Atemfunktion mit einer Lebensverlängerung als Folge. Sehr wichtig sind für die Therapeuten neben fundiertem theoretischen Wissen praktische Erfahrungen, da häufig in praxi die indizierte Behandlung gegen erhebliche äußere Widerstände umgesetzt werden muss.
