Zusammenfassung

Bei der Adipositas handelt es sich um eine Erkrankung, die – wenn auch in unterschiedlicher Häufigkeit – in jeder Altersgruppe vorkommt. In den letzten Jahren hat die Prävalenz der Adipositas im Kindes- und Jugendalter deutlich zugenommen. Obwohl das Hauptaugenmerk weiterhin auf der Prävention und der konservativen Therapie liegen sollte, gewinnt die bariatrische Chirurgie bei schwer adipösen Jugendlichen, die nicht ausreichend auf eine konservative Therapie ansprechen, an Bedeutung. Auch im höheren Lebensalter steigt nicht zuletzt durch die gesteigerte Lebenserwartung die Prävalenz der Adipositas deutlich an, so dass auch hier die bariatrische Chirurgie zunehmend wichtiger wird. Das Alter sollte für diese Eingriffe nicht limitierend sein. Darüber hinaus können bariatrische Operationen auch für Patienten mit einem hohen operativen Risiko eine therapeutische Option sein.
