Um hohe Polynomgrade bei der Approximation von Funktionen durch Polynome zu vermeiden, wird der Definitionsbereich partitioniert. Geeignete Übergangsbedingungen an den Schnittstellen garantieren Stetigkeits- und Differenzierbarkeitseigenschaften der zusammengesetzten lokalen Interpolationspolynome.
