Zusammenfassung
„Verantwortung tragen”, „jemanden zur Verantwortung ziehen”, „sich seiner Verantwortung bewusst werden” – das Wort Verantwortung wird vielfältig verwendet. Charakteristisch für Verantwortung ist, dass die kurz- und langfristigen Folgen des eigenen Handelns beziehungsweise Nichthandelns auf Basis ethischer Überlegungen bedacht werden. Somit kontrastiert Verantwortung zum Antiwert Egoismus, für den eine kurzfristige Zeitperspektive kennzeichnend ist. Diese Sichtweise von Verantwortung betont die Freiheit einer Person, ein bestimmtes Verhalten zu zeigen, und grenzt Verantwortung somit von Pflicht und Schuld ab. Dabei zeigt sich Verantwortung in konkretem Verhalten. Aus empirischen Ergebnissen lässt sich eine Reihe von förderlichen Bedingungen für verantwortungsvolles Verhalten ableiten, die sowohl in der Person als auch in der Umwelt liegen. Dabei geht Verantwortung nicht nur mit positiven Konsequenzen für andere, sondern auch mit positiven Konsequenzen für einen selbst einher.
