Zusammenfassung

Die Carotis-Thrombendarteriektomie (CEA) stellt die Methode der Wahl bei der Behandlung der asymptomatischen und symptomatischen Karotisstenose dar. Die Stentbehandlung (CAS) kann gegenüber der offenen Operation bei Restenosen nach CEA/radiogenen Stenosen/hochzervikalen Stenosen/Tandemstenosen mit höhergradiger intrakranieller oder intrathorakaler Stenose/kontralateraler Parese des N. laryngeus recurrens Vorteile bringen. Speziell Frauen unter 75 Jahre, Patienten mit kontralateraler Okklusion und Restenose haben bei CAS im Vergleich zur CEA wahrscheinlich kein erhöhtes Risiko.
