Zusammenfassung
Die detaillierte Beschreibung der Wechselwirkung von Licht und Materie sowie der Teilchenerzeugung erfordern zusätzlich zu den relativistischen Wellengleichungen eine Quantisierung der Felder durch Berücksichtigung der Quantenpostulate. Das physikalische Bild der daraus im Strahlungsfeld resultierenden Quantenelektrodynamik (QED) wird erläutert. Die kanonische Quantisierung – bei der man wieder das Korrespondenzprinzip nutzt – wird allgemein für Boson- und Fermionfelder disktiert. Die Quantisierung des freien elektromagnetischen Feldes wird durchgeführt und die Bedeutung der Lorenz-Bedingung als Nebenbedingung für Zustände wird hervorgehoben. Mit Berücksichtigung der Quantenpostulate durch die Vertauschungsrelationen lassen sich die Erwartungswerte physikalischer Größen wie elektrischer und magnetischer Feldstärke berechnen. Die Erwartungswerte von Energie und Impuls erfordern normalgeordnete Produkte der Feldoperatoren, so dass Divergenzen vermieden werden.
