PSV ist ein druckkontrollierter Spontanatmungsmodus (augmentiert/assistiert), setzt also eine erhaltene Spontanatmung voraus. Atmet der Patient ein, wird jede Inspiration vom Gerät so lange druckunterstützt, bis das vorgewählte Druckniveau erreicht worden ist.
