Zusammenfassung

In Deutschland erkranken jährlich ca. 350.000 Menschen an einem Herpes zoster, rund 2/3 davon sind über 50 Jahre. Da bis zum 40. Lebensjahr 98% der Bevölkerung mit dem Varizella-zoster-Virus Kontakt hatte (meist klinisch in Form der Windpocken) sind praktisch alle Menschen gefährdet, an einer Herpes-zoster-Infektion zu erkranken. 20–30% der Bevölkerung erkranken im Laufe des Lebens an einem Herpes zoster, ab einem Alter von 85 Jahren liegt die Inzidenz bei ca. 50%.
