Zusammenfassung

In diesem Kapitel werden fünf Personen des Gesundheitswesens vorgestellt, die mutig neue Wege gingen und damit Innovatives erreichten. Marie Manthey ging das Risiko der eigenen Kündigung ein, um Primäre Pflege (Primary Nursing) zu entwickeln. Jean Watson entwickelte in einer Zeit der Technifizierung des Gesundheitswesens eine Caring-Theorie, die heute die am häufigsten zitierte Theorie in den USA ist. Mary Jo Kreitzer vertraute ihrer Intuition und riskierte ihren guten Ruf als Wissenschaftlerin, als sie an ihrer Universität ein Zentrum für Spiritualität und Heilung aufbaute. Heather Zwickey wollte das Gesundheitswesen von außen revolutionieren und studierte deshalb Mathematik (Schwerpunkt Chaostheorie) und Immunologie, um heute ein Forschungszentrum zu leiten, das sich auf alternative Verfahren spezialisiert hat. Val Lincoln führte integrative Verfahren in ihrem Krankenhaus ein und ermöglicht so den hierin qualifizierten Pflegefachkräften, selbstständig zu diagnostizieren und therapieren.
